This post will be more interesting for some of you (the lifters) than others.
I'm in the gym this morning, about 8:40, setting up to do some glute-ham raises on the lat pulldown machine (I put my knees on the seat and my ankles under the pads that usually go on top of your knees). I have my headphones in, Jambi blaring. Can't hear anything.
Ahead of me at the benches are:
- a 35-40 y/old guy and a personal trainer, between sets of bench
- a 35-40 y/old woman stretching, using the bench and bar as props
So I get started doing my first set, lowering myself slowly(ish) and doing an explosive pushup off the floor to get myself up high enough that my hamstrings can take over. After a couple reps I witness this exchange (dialogue made up by me, since I couldn't hear).
Trainee (staring at me, to trainer, with skeptical, semi-mocking look): What the fuck is he doing?
Trainer (looking at me, getting a little smirk): It's a glute-ham raise, it's pretty legit
(patting his hamstrings): Works your hamstrings really well.
Woman (grins at me)
Trainee (staring at me, looking a little shocked and sick to his stomach): Holy shit
Trainer (looking self-satisfied): Want to try them?
--Warren finishes, removes headphones so I actually hear this next part.--
Trainee (shaking head, looking crestfallen): No, a man's got to know his limitations.
Woman (grins again and BENCHES 165 like 8 times)
It was awesome.
For those who don't know the exercise - kinda like this but as described with the lat pulldown:

Have a good day!
