I am taking an Anatomy/Physiology class for probably (genuinely) the fifth time. And this lovely book that cost me $300 was recently published (2009). It offers some wonderful quotes and words of wisdom that I thought I'd share. I also have some insightful quotes and phrases that my teacher has shared as well.
When explaining terminology....
"Most of the terms are derived from Latin or Greek and are descriptive in the original languages. For example, foramen is a Latin word for hole, and magnum means large. The foramen is therefore a large hole in the skull through which the spinal cord attaches to the brain."
When explaining osmosis....
"Water moves by osmosis from the cell into the hypertonic solution, resulting in cell shrinkage, or crenation (kre-na shun, crena, a notch)."
And my new all time favorite- the phrase used by my teacher when asking a question about hypertonic and hypotonic solutions....
"Physiological saline is 0.9% NaCl. A red blood cell is placed in a solution of 1.5% NaCl. Explain... (and so the question continues)."
wtf
Since we've only been in class for two weeks, I'm sure I'll have more to share soon.
Kyle and I got a laser printer! That's about the only new things that's happened. George almost killed our fish. He got his claw hooked into the fish's jaw but somehow didn't just straight up yank it out. The fish couldn't close his mouth for a while but he's still alive.
BEST STORY EVER!
While at work, there were these two kids getting ready to leave. One of them said, "I'm done for today." The other kid's response, "I'm finished too."
Hope all is well!
Love, Laura
